The Mini Bar is open
Unless you know about “mini bar”, the sheer amount of information out there can be down right confusing, and conflicting – so my class members get a secret insite into my favourite sites, books and publications and full email support just in case anything crops up.
Meanwhile here is a tool that will help you make decisions for your and your baby’s care.
M: minute, how long have you got you make a decision? Do you have to decided immediately or can you spend a few days looking over your options and looking at the evidence to make your choice?
I: information, When looking at information look at the source – is it reliable information, when was it published? who published it? Does it have authority stamps from people like NMC, RCM, WHO? Is it evidenced based or an opinion piece ie blog.
N: nothing, so you have time now you have quality information, but what happens if you just do nothing? wait and see? Sometimes we like to act when inaction is not just a possibility but perhaps a better choice for you?
I: intuition, mums have great connection to their pregnancy and baby – don’t undervalue your gut feelings. They matter, A LOT. Even if the feeling goes against what you are being told, maybe what you are being told is wrong for you?
So use the next step to decide if your feelings are validated or perhaps bourn from anxiety …..
B: benefits, what is the benefit of the care or option being presented to you?
A: alternatives, if you are unsure about your options and they don’t sit right with you, there is always another way of doing something.
R: repercussions, When we act on a choice we need to be aware of not just the risks, but also the repercussions, the knock on effects of our choice.
And lastly – if you cant member MINI BAR and want a simpler way to discover choice just ask
and when you get an answer…
(Special thanks to Ben and Misha who gave us a good laugh during class by re-arranging an activity into “mini bar” during a class !)
